Description
In order to gain power Evolve have identified yet another restriction point and flaw in the S62 V8 engine setup.

The first is the air intake temperature ready taken by the ECU. The factory air filter/intake system has a major flaw from the factory. The air intake temperature sensor is located inside the mass air sensor housing which sits directly in front of the radiator. Due to the nature of modern temperature sensors, the sensor becomes heat soaked and sends an artificially high reading to the engine management system. The ECU then retards ignition timing and adds fuel which result in less power.

To avoid this we relocate the air intake temperature sensor to a more suitable position where it will have a true reading of the air intake temperature.

We then looked at the restriction that the factory intake system poses. The factory cold air feed is placed behind the front bumper where airflow is very poor. The airboxes are undersized with the cold air feed tubes having a very small opening.

Evolve have designed an intake system which replaces the airbox assembly and places high flow air filters high up in the bumper behind the fog lights where cool air in abundance. We have used 100% Pre-Preg Carbon Fibre that is very light, strong and conducts less heat than metal or plastic.

This two fold upgrade complete eradicates all flaws and restrictions in the intake system and gives much improved throttle response with increased power above 4500rpm.

Typical power gains are in the region of 10-15hp and most importantly with the new intake temperature probe the temperature readings are now correct giving a much more consistent power delivery.

As these delete the MAF's you will require the Evolve Alpha N tune to run these intakes.

The largest major restriction point of the E39 M5 S62 V8 engine is the exhaust manifolds / headers.
Changing the exhaust system without changing the headers gives no gain in power. In fact, changing the header back system gives little if any power gain!

The factory items are very poorly designed and looking at them it is clear funds were saved in the department. No other M Power car has ever had headers as poorly designed as on the S62 engine.

Performance headers are already available on the market but most compromises torque below 5000rpm especially under part throttle driving. The very highlight of the S62 engine is it exceptional torque at the low to mid engine speeds.

Evolve produced an 4-1 design which not only allows for more power at the higher rpm's but also enhances the strong points of the S62 engine with almost 400 lb.ft torque (stock torque is 368 lb.ft) from 2000-5000rpm. Above 5000rpm power increased by anything from 25-40hp depending on the mechanical setup of the engine.

The Evolve 4-1 headers can be used in isolation without any other performance upgrade and give a minimum gain of 30 hp and 27 lb/ft torque.

This upgrade represents the single largest performance upgrade with more power and torque accross all RPM points which in turn allows for much improved acceleration.

Noise levels are only slightly increased with the headers alone but the engine does take on a more purposeful note. For more noise please look at our exhaust range.

Much consideration has been giving to ease of fitment. Subframe removal is not require during the installation.

In conjunction with the Evolve software and Intake system the S62 V8 will go from an average of 390 bhp / 368 lb.ft to 445 bhp / 400+ lb.ft

We were approached by several customers to develop a supercharger kit for the S62 engined E39 M5. Requirements were to have a linear power curve with plenty of low end torque and a fast throttle response. Having experience with Vortech based kit which are very much top end biased we decided to develop the kit with the Rotrex C38-91 Centrifugal Supercharger. Testing without an intercooler showed us the IAT were far too high for consistent performance on the road. The other feedback we had was that customers did not want to have extensive body work of their pristine E39 M5's trimmed to fit an intercooler. Our solution for this was to develop a side mounted air-to-air intercooler mounted just infront of the wheel arch behind the fog light. We chose the air-to-air intercooler as we find them much more effective in cooling and recovery rates when compared to liquid-to-air intercoolers.

To prevent any belt slip we convert the belt drive to an 8-rib system which provides superior belt traction for the Rotrex charger meaning no loss in performance and faster response. The supercharger bracket is a work of art in itself. 100% CNC machined aluminium with a neat trick up its sleeve. As the coolant hose would have been slightly crimped with the placement of the bracket we diverted the coolant through the bracket.

During testing we found that air flow to the charger was crucial to the amount of boost it would produce. With limited space we faced a challenge in providing a smooth air passage to the supercharger inlet. We solved this by having the part made in carbon fibre but instead of having the usual smooth side on show we reversed it so that the smooth carbon would be on the inside providing the maximum amount of air to the supercharger.

To tie the kit together it comes with our very own Alpha N ECU management on the stock ECU which is flashed in with our Evolve-R OBDII cable. Many hours of development on both and road and dyno provide a smooth a reliable tune that brings all the individual components together which not only provides a huge power gain over a stock car but also is factory smooth to drive.
